HEIC vs JPG
Apple's default camera format since iOS 11. Efficient on device, awkward everywhere else.
The universal photographic format. Lossy, no transparency, and readable by every device made in the last thirty years.

| Compression | Lossy | Lossy |
| Transparency | Yes | No |
| Best for | Photos straight off an iPhone — usually the format you are converting away from. | Photographs that need to open anywhere without a second thought. |
| Browser support | Apple platforms; limited elsewhere, which is why conversion is common. | Universal. |

Worth knowing before you convert
- JPG cannot store transparency. Anything transparent in your HEIC is flattened onto white before encoding, so a logo with a see-through background comes out on a white rectangle.
- Both HEIC and JPG are lossy, so this re-encodes an image that already lost some detail. The loss is small at our automatic quality, but it does not come back. Keep your original if you may need to convert again later.

Your own file will land somewhere else — a photo, a screenshot and a flat logo compress very differently. What carries over is the direction and the rough scale.
Questions about HEIC to JPG
How do I convert HEIC to JPG?
Drop your HEIC files onto the box above, pick a quality level if you want to override the automatic one, and press convert. The JPG files download straight back to you — a single file on its own, or a ZIP when you convert several at once.
Is converting HEIC to JPG free?
Yes. There is no account, no watermark, and no per-file charge. Conversion runs on our servers, so it does not depend on how fast your own machine is.
Are my files stored anywhere?
No. Files are held in memory only while the conversion runs and are discarded the moment the result is sent back. Nothing is written to disk and nothing is written to a database.
Will the quality drop?
Both formats are lossy, so re-encoding always costs a little. The quality level is picked automatically from the image's size and pixel count so the loss stays below the visible threshold.
Why choose JPG over HEIC?
The universal photographic format. Lossy, no transparency, and readable by every device made in the last thirty years. Photographs that need to open anywhere without a second thought. Browser support: Universal.
What happens to transparency?
JPG has no alpha channel, so transparent areas are flattened onto a white background before encoding. If you need to keep transparency, convert to WebP, AVIF, or PNG instead.
